About Lions

WELCOME TO THE 2021-2022 LIONS YEAR

The District Governor Team

Keith Yates - District Governor

Keith joined the Lions Club of Backburn in 2007, and served in most of the roles of the club, and it is a privilege now to move from the club level and to lead the executive and members of the 201V5 Lions District for the coming year.

His theme for the year is "Working together" inspired by my experiences of working within a Lions Club as well as the inter-club service projects. I am looking forward to working with the executive team who will be supporting the district, as well as the 65 dedicated and committed Lions Clubs in the district.

He feels Lions have our work cut out for us, with the constraints of the COVID pandemic of the last year affecting our service delivery. It would seem that these constraints will have a bearing on the life of Lions Clubs in the next 12 months. The Lions Clubs and members are mindful of the recent natural disasters that have affected communities in the area we cover as a district.

Lions have learnt how to work with the constraints imposed upon us, and have continued to deliver services in the community to address hunger and deprivations. We have continued to meet online and will take these learnings as we move forward. Lions clubs have welcomed new members during this period, and learnt some new ways to raise funds and to deliver services in our communities.

Keith is looking forward to his term as the District Governor working and supporting the members of the clubs in the district.

Welcome to our Vice District Governor and 2nd Vice District Governors

Graham Bryant - Vice District Governor

Graham Joined LEOS in 1979 after being involved in Rotary’s school based Interact Club then Rotaract Club prior to joining LEOS in Sydney.

He joined his local Lions Club in 1985 and through work commitments moved to the Central Coast of NSW in 1992 being a member of two clubs - Charmhaven and Gwandalan prior to a move to Bathurst in 1995 where he and Lion Ros were members of the Bathurst Lions Club. In 2006 Graham relocated to his company’s head office in Melbourne where he and Lion Ros transferred to Wheelers Hill Lions.

Graham met his wife Roslyn through LEO’s and have served together since 1980.

He has held Board positions across all clubs he has been a member of including President of his Sydney Club Beverley Hills – Roselands, Bathurst and Wheelers Hill. Graham has also held various cabinet roles across N2, N3, N4 and V5 Districts.

Outside Lions, he is involved in his Church’s administration, chaired his local village’s sesquicentenary celebrations, and supported his local Rural Fire Service through local fundraising projects including forming a surf club in Bathurst!

Graham is looking forward to his term as 1st Vice District Governor in 2021 - 2022.

Lyn Perera - 2nd Vice District Governor

I am relatively new to Lions and continue to learn each year from my most experienced colleagues.  Taking part in the District Cabinet is a great way to find out more about how Lions function, and this has given me the opportunity to hear more about the wonderful projects our clubs are participating in.  I am excited to keep learning as I travel through the three-year District Governor journey.

On joining the Lyndhurst & District Lions Club in 2016, I took on the role of treasurer in my first two years, followed by President and Zone chair for the past two years.  My work life continues to be busy, I have Diploma of Management and I am honoured to had the  opportunity to complete the Lions Emerging and Advanced Lions Leadership programs in recent years. I am looking forward to this first step as 2nd Vice District Governor in 2021-22 where I can represent our Governor, meet members, attend meetings, conduct installations and new member inductions.

Hunger, Vison, Diabetes, Childhood Cancer and Environment remain our global causes, and together with the natural disasters occurring across the world, our contribution to LCIF and ALF is paramount to enabling the support our communities need.

Collaboration within and between our clubs and the communities we live in, is also highly important to me.  We as Lions do not need to compete with each other, but rather collaborate and join together to form one powerful team.  Support each other in our endeavours and work together as ‘We Serve’ our community.

Lyn is looking forward to her term as 2nd Vice District Governor in 2021 - 2022.
